Lahore to Khewra via Motorway

M-2 motorway step by step

Enter M-2 at Thokar Niaz Baig or Babu Sabu interchange on Lahore's southern edge. Head north toward Sheikhupura. The motorway runs parallel to the old GT Road but is faster and better surfaced.

Pass Sheikhupura and Khanewal service areas in the first 90 minutes. Fuel, food, and prayer facilities are available at each stop. Top up fuel before Chakwal if your tank is below half.

Exit at Chakwal interchange around km 210. Turn west on the Chakwal to Khewra road. Follow brown PMDC signs through Khewra town to the visitor gate. The final 30 km takes 40 to 50 minutes on mountain roads.

Toll plazas and rest stops

M-2 has toll plazas at entry and exit points. Allow extra time at busy plazas on Friday afternoons.

Lilla interchange is an alternative exit some navigation apps suggest. It adds rural road time. Chakwal interchange is the standard route most Lahore drivers use.

Toll receipts are paper slips at most plazas. Keep yours until you exit M-2 in case a booth clerk asks for the entry stub.

Chakwal to Khewra: the last 30 km

The Chakwal to Khewra road winds through Salt Range foothills. Expect curves, occasional potholes, and slow trucks hauling salt. Drive in daylight if this is your first trip.

Mobile signal weakens in some valleys. Download offline maps in Lahore before departure. GPS coordinates for the mine entrance: 32.6479°N, 73.0084°E.

Parking fills fast on Sunday afternoons. Arrive before 10 AM for easier parking near the gate. Check opening hours before you leave Lahore.

Save offline maps before leaving Lahore. Google Maps and other apps label the site as Khewra Salt Mine or PMDC Salt Mine Khewra.
