Jhelum city to Khewra distance

Although Khewra and Jhelum city share Jhelum District, the mine sits in the Salt Range west of the Jhelum River valley. Driving distance is approximately 80 km, longer than a map suggests because of mountain roads through the Salt Range.

Chakwal city, 30 km east of the mine, is the usual approach for motorway visitors. Jhelum locals often drive in from the south and west via local Salt Range roads instead of looping through Chakwal.

Khewra town is a separate settlement from Jhelum city. Do not confuse the district name with the mine being inside urban Jhelum.

Recommended route from Jhelum

From Jhelum city, head southwest toward Khewra on the GT Road or local links through Sarai Alamgir. Follow signs to Khewra along the Salt Range corridor west of the river.

Navigation apps label the destination as Khewra Salt Mine or PMDC Salt Mine. Brown PMDC signage appears as you enter Khewra town. See location details for GPS coordinates and parking.

Some visitors approach from the Chakwal-Khewra road instead if coming from the east after an M-2 trip. Our Chakwal distance page covers that 30 km leg from the opposite direction.

The hill sections are two-lane and winding. Allow extra time after rain or at night.
