Resort facilities for visitors

The tourist resort area covers the entrance zone above the mine. You find entrance counters, a parking lot, food stalls, and a gift shop selling rock salt products before you enter the underground section.

The food options are basic: chai, chips, samosas, and bottled water. Do not expect a full restaurant menu. If you are travelling with children, pack snacks from Chakwal or Kallar Kahar.

Gift shop selection includes salt lamps, edible rock salt, small carvings, and decorative pieces. Products are genuine Khewra salt from the mine.

Restrooms are available near the entrance. Facilities are functional but basic. Bring tissues and hand sanitizer.

Can you stay overnight?

PMDC operates limited guest facilities near the mine, but availability is restricted and booking procedures are not standardized for casual tourists. Most visitors stay in Chakwal city (30 km east) or at Kallar Kahar Lake (25 km) where hotel selection is wider. See our hotels nearby page for options.

Parking and arrival tips

Parking is free and located near the entrance. Cars use the main lot. Buses park in a separate area on busy days. The surface lot has little shade, so interiors heat up fast in summer. Do not leave pets or heat-sensitive items in the car.

Arrive before 10:30 AM on weekends to get a spot close to the entrance. On Eid holidays, the lot fills by 9:30 AM. Check opening hours before you leave.
