Khewra Salt Mines Tourist Resort

Reception and briefing hall

PMDC built a reception and briefing hall as the first indoor stop for tourist groups. Staff orient visitors before the walk to the mine mouth. The 2002 Khewra Salt Mines Resort Development Project expanded these surface facilities for growing domestic and foreign visitor numbers.

Walkway and souvenir shop

Paved walkways link the briefing hall to the mine entrance. A souvenir shop beside reception sells salt lamps, carved keepsakes, and edible salt products.

Illumination and electric train

Reflector and coloured lights highlight halite textures along the tourist route. Electric trains on narrow-gauge tracks carry visitors to the walking section underground.

Refreshment kiosks

Seating and small kiosks inside the mine let families rest during the walking tour. Options are light snacks and drinks, not full meals.

Guides, parking, and children's area

PMDC trains male and female guides for underground tours. The large surface parking lot handles cars, vans, and coaches with tiered fees listed on ticket prices.

A small children's play area near the resort entrance gives young visitors a break while adults queue. Salt Range hillside views are visible from the parking area on clear days.

Resort facilities overview

The tourist resort area covers the entrance zone above the mine. You find entrance counters, a parking lot, food stalls, and a gift shop selling rock salt products before you enter the underground section.

The food options are basic: chai, chips, samosas, and bottled water. Do not expect a full restaurant menu. If you are travelling with children, pack snacks from Chakwal or Kallar Kahar.

Gift shop selection includes salt lamps, edible rock salt, small carvings, and decorative pieces. Products are genuine Khewra salt from the mine.

Restrooms are available near the entrance. Facilities are functional but basic. Bring tissues and hand sanitizer.

Children's play area

Families with toddlers use the outdoor play space near the entrance while waiting for train batches. It is basic but helps on busy weekends.

Can you stay overnight?

PMDC operates limited guest facilities near the mine, but availability is restricted and booking procedures are not standardized for casual tourists. Most visitors stay in Chakwal city (30 km east) or at Kallar Kahar Lake (25 km) where hotel selection is wider. See our hotels nearby page for options.

Parking and arrival tips
