Which is the highest peak of the Salt Range?
Sakesar is widely cited as the Salt Range high point in geography textbooks and reference works for Pakistan. The summit lies on the outer fringes of Soon Valley, with Uchhali Lake in the surrounding hills.
Do not confuse Sakesar with the hills around Khewra mine. Visitors to Khewra see underground chambers, not the range summit. Climbing Sakesar is a separate trip west of the Khewra corridor.
Salt Range height at Sakesar
Reference sources round Sakesar to about 1,522 metres (near 5,000 feet). Average hills in the wider Salt Range are lower, often a few hundred metres above the plain, which is why Sakesar stands out on maps.
Homework questions about "average height of the Salt Range" usually expect a much lower figure for the whole belt (on the order of hundreds of metres), not the single summit elevation.
Where is Sakesar on the map?
Sakesar is in Khushab District, west of the Khewra and Kallar Kahar section of the range. Soon Valley towns such as Naushera (Noorpur) are common staging points for local travel.
From Islamabad or Lahore, drivers usually take M-2 and then branch west on local roads through Khushab District. The journey is longer and less tourist-developed than the Khewra mine day trip.
Kallar Kahar, Khewra, and Sakesar
Kallar Kahar on M-2 is a popular motorway stop in the eastern Salt Range. Khewra Salt Mine is a short drive west from that corridor. Sakesar is farther west in a quieter part of the belt.
Many families combine Kallar Kahar Lake with Khewra on one day. Sakesar and Soon Valley lakes such as Uchhali are a different itinerary, often an overnight or long day from the same motorway start points.
