How far is Khewra from Sargodha?
Road distance from Sargodha to the PMDC visitor entrance is about 135 km. That is shorter than the Lahore or Islamabad runs because Sargodha already sits on the western Punjab plain facing the Salt Range.
Khewra is in Jhelum District, not Sargodha District. Chakwal city, your motorway exit, lies in the neighbouring district and acts as the gateway for most Sargodha drivers.
Citrus harvest season (November through February) brings extra truck traffic on the Bhera link road. Add 20 minutes if you leave Sargodha after mid-morning during peak loading weeks.
Sargodha to Khewra via Bhera and M-2
Head southeast from Sargodha on the Bhera road (N-60 corridor). Most drivers connect to M-2 at the Bhera interchange rather than taking older GT Road through Khushab.
Drive north on M-2. You pass the Lilla and Kallar Kahar service areas. Kallar Kahar Lake sits beside the motorway and makes a quick photo stop if children are travelling with you.
Exit at Chakwal interchange and turn west on the Chakwal-Khewra road. Brown PMDC signs appear after the first Salt Range climb. Allow 30 to 40 minutes for this final stretch.

Driving tips from Sargodha
A same-day return is realistic if you leave by 7 AM. You need roughly five hours on the road plus two hours underground at the mine.
Fuel up in Sargodha or at Kallar Kahar service area. Petrol stations are sparse on the Chakwal-Khewra hill road after dark.
Friday afternoons see heavier traffic toward Chakwal from nearby towns. Tuesday and Wednesday mornings are usually the quietest slots on M-2 in this section.
Bus and train from Sargodha
Daewoo and other intercity coaches run from Sargodha toward Lahore and Rawalpindi on M-2. Ask for a drop near Chakwal or Bhera, then hire a local taxi for the last 30 km to the mine.
Pakistan Railways serves Khewra station on the main line, but connections from Sargodha usually require a change at Lahore or Rawalpindi. Most families still drive for a day trip.
Overnight stays in Chakwal work well if you also plan Katas Raj Temples. See our nearby attractions guide.
