How far is Khewra from Gujrat?
Expect roughly 185 km from central Gujrat to the mine gate. That follows motorway and hill roads, not a straight line across the Jhelum River plain.
Khewra lies west of Chakwal in Jhelum District. Gujrat is in northeast Punjab, so you cross the busy Gujrat-Kharian industrial strip before the motorway stretch opens up.
Compared with Sialkot, Gujrat saves about an hour because you avoid the Wazirabad northern loop. Compared with Lahore, you skip the Thokar Niaz Baig entry queues.
Gujrat to Khewra on M-2 southbound
Leave Gujrat on the Gujrat-Kharian Road. Factory workers and school vans crowd this corridor until mid-morning. The Kharian M-2 access point is the usual motorway entry.
Head south on M-2 past Lilla interchange. Bhera service area has fuel and food before Kallar Kahar, where the Salt Range first appears on the horizon east of the carriageway.
Take Chakwal interchange and drive west. The road narrows through foothill bends. PMDC brown signs mark the last 10 km.

Navigation tip: set destination to PMDC Salt Mine, not Chakwal city centre, or you may overshoot the mine turnoff.
What Gujrat drivers should know
Ceramic kiln trucks share the Kharian road on weekdays. Keep a wider following distance behind loaded lorries.
Toll plazas at M-2 entry and Chakwal exit accept cash and cards. Weekend queues form at Kharian access during wedding season (October to December).
Download offline maps. Signal fades in the Salt Range cuts west of Chakwal. Confirm opening hours at the gate on arrival.
Public transport from Gujrat
Intercity buses from Gujrat run toward Lahore and Rawalpindi on M-2. Disembark at Chakwal or Bhera and hire a taxi for the remaining 30 to 40 km.
No passenger train serves Gujrat city directly for a simple Khewra day trip. The nearest rail hub is Lala Musa or Gujrat Road station depending on schedule.
Families from Gujrat often combine the mine with Katas Raj on an overnight in Chakwal. See Chakwal distance guide for the short final leg.
